Google delays next week’s Android 11 Beta release 2020: Why?: Google tonight announced that its delaying next week’s Android 11 Beta 1 release and therefore the Beta Launch Show.

The corporate on Twitter said that “now isn't the time to celebrate” in light of ongoing societal protests across the US, including within the San Francisco Bay Area, and can reschedule at a future date.

In lieu of a physical I/O conference, the Android 11: The Beta Launch Show was meant to showcase what’s new within the OS this year. It might have started with an hour-long keynote at 8 a.m. PT on Wednesday, June 3. Afterwards, senior members of the Android team were alleged to host a live Q&A session.

Earlier in the week, the corporate posted the list of Android 11 Talks that might even be released that day.

For app developers and partners, Google tells us tonight that it's not changing the ultimate release schedule for Android 11, which is planned for Q3 2020. It’ll provide updated timing because it becomes available.

First Android 11 Beta

The first Android 11 Beta was originally expected this month, but that was delayed as Google “decided to feature a touch of additional time” to the discharge schedule from February. The Android team at the start of the month said that it’s “collaborating remotely and prioritizing the well-being of our families, friends and associates.”

As a result, it pushed back Beta 1 and “all subsequent milestones” by a few month, and released DP 4 instead.

  • Beta 1 will include the last word SDK and NDK APIs with this release and open up Google Play publishing for apps targeting Android 11.
  • Beta 2 moves to August and can include release candidate builds for final testing
